With one listen to Hepcat's music, you will witness the band's incredible talents, whether it be outstanding instrument playing, as well as outstanding vocal harmonies and leads. Even though their albums are hard, if not impossible, to top, they manage to do so with their energetic live shows, where the bandmembers are sharply dressed and out-doing their last performance with each new show. Their live shows simply reinforce even more that Hepcat is one of the most talented and tightest bands in history.
Mephiskapheles is back in red and black. The band that helped define third-wave ska, then defied critics by exploring even greater possibilities with its darkly original ska fusion, has reunited for amazing shows and new music in the works.
ALPHA SCHOOLMARM ORCHESTRA
The 13-piece Alpha Schoolmarm Orchestra (ASO), based on early ’60s Jamaican Ska music, is conducted by Denver music veteran Chad Aman. This talented wall of sound truly dishes up an original musical experience. The show takes the audience on a roller coaster ride from ingenious Ska-inspired arrangements of standards (from Lady Gaga to Rossini) to innovative orchestral originals. At points throughout the show, Aman literally “plays” the orchestra like an instrument, resulting in a remarkable feat of improvisation. You do not want to miss this one-of-a-kind musical tour de force!
Originally hailing from the small farming and factory town of Fort Morgan, Colorado,Todd McMullan (lead vocals and electric guitars) and Kyle Hernandez (backup vocals and bass), amateur competitive skaters, started the band as a reason to do something during the snowy wintry months. Skateboards were traded for guitars once the pair heard ska-punk acts like Mustard Plug, Goldfinger, and LessThan Jake which they heard on the soundtracks of the video games they played. They were quickly hooked and immediately put their future band plans into action. “The first two years, we were really young,” recalls Todd. “We were 16 or 17 when we started. After a short while, we went on the road frequently for two and a half years straight, living in our van and trailer in Wal-Mart parking lots. It’s a tough life, but a remarkable experience.”
Judge Roughneck is one of Colorado's premier bands. Having a loyal fan base, and repeatedly voted Denver's best ska/reggae act, Judge Roughneck has gained both commercial success and critical acclaim. Due to the band's widespread appeal, they have been asked to perform over ten times at the prestegious Reggae on the Rocks Festival at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater. Judge Roughneck's unique brand of ska & reggae pays tribute to both the early '80's British 2-Tone movement and the original jazz-laced ska of Jamaica, while infusing a generous dose of soul and R&B. The result is a unique, high-energy dance sound that entertains a wide audience.
Composed of eleven talented local musicians, The Dendrites have become Denver’s most prominent instrumental ska act. With a five-piece horn section and a six-piece rhythm section, The Dendrites create tightly performed, multi-layered music that harkens back to the golden days of 1960s Jamaican ska. The group initially formed over ten years ago, and have since built a solid following and dependable reputation. Their sound is classic yet progressive, powerful but without sacrificing fun.
